Although Genesis School, Inc. receives funding
from government sources, foundations and corporations, it is never
enough. Some of our programs and services do not receive adequate funding
and many programs could be greatly improved with additional financial
support. Genesis relies heavily on
the generosity of our supporters to achieve our mission.
We serve approximately 300 students year-round from the Kansas City
area. Your contribution can make

Non-Traditional Giving
"The highest
use of capital is not to make more money, but to make money do more for the
betterment of life." Henry Ford (1863-1947)
An
integral part of Kansas City's
educational system, Genesis fills a special niche, educating the students
who have struggled in a traditional learning environment.
A
preservation fund was established to ensure that future generation of
students in need can find help at Genesis School.
Preservation fund provides the financial base we need to face whatever
challenge comes our way in an ever-changing educational landscape. City,
County, state and federal funding sources have cut their budgets. Local and
national foundations face a 10%-30% decline in financial value due to
market losses and have decreased the amount of grants they typically award
to non-profit organizations. But our enrollment is at capacity and families
remain on a waiting list for an opportunity to send their children to Genesis School.
The Genesis School preservation fund will help
us grow to meet the needs of the students we serve regardless of reductions
in funding from traditional sources.
There
are many unique ways to give, including the following options:
"In
Honor of" Recognition or Memorial Gifts
Do you
know someone who has everything, wants for nothing personally, and you are
stumped looking for the perfect gift? How about making a gift to Genesis School in their honor? Perhaps in
recognition of a milestone in their life...graduation, anniversary,
wedding, birthday...or other special occasion?
All
you need to do is send the name and address of the person that you are
making the gift in recognition of with your donation and Genesis School
will send a note to the honoree acknowledging your gift.
Making
a gift in honor of, or in memory of your loved one is a simple act that
will mean so much to so many.
Planned
Gifts
Make a
difference for the students of Genesis and yourself - consider an Estate or
Legacy gift.
What
are planned gifts? Planned gifts include gifts through your will,
charitable gift annuities, life insurance, pooled income funds and
charitable trusts. A thoughtfully planned estate gift will carry your
legacy far beyond your lifetime and help us to ensure the perpetuity of the
school.
Benefits
of Planned Giving
Fulfill
philanthropic goals;
Reduce
income tax through a deduction for the gift;
Avoid
capital gain tax on gifts of long-term appreciated property;
Retain
a stream of payments for life for the donor and other beneficiaries;
Increase
disposable income;
Eliminate
federal estate tax on property passing to charity upon donor's death;
Reduce cost and time in estate settlement.
Types
of Planned Giving
Wills
and Bequests: Just
a few words in your will can go a long way towards fulfilling Genesis School's vision of caring for the
future life of this organization. Please consider including this sentence
in your will: "I give, devise and bequeath to Genesis School
the sum of $_________dollars."
This will help us continue our commitment to provide quality
programs to students at Genesis for years to come.
Life
Insurance: While
most people own some form of life insurance because of its unique ability
to meet a variety of needs for financial protection, its role in planned
charitable giving is frequently overlooked. Life insurance itself can be
the direct funding medium of a gift, permitting the donor to make a
substantial gift for a relatively modest annual outlay. Planning pointer:
Insurance can also replace the value of an asset given to a charitable
organization.
Life
Income Gift: Your
irrevocably transfer some assets to Genesis School
now, and in return, your survivor will receive income for life.
Charitable
Lead Trust: Individuals
with very large estates can use a charitable lead trust to benefit Genesis School and pass principal to family
members with little or no tax penalty.
Retirement
Plan Gift: Your
IRA assets will be transferred to a charitable remainder trust; the trust
will provide life insurance for the beneficiary, and then an eventual gift
to Genesis School.
Gifts
of Stock: Your
broker can assist you in making a gift of stock via a direct transfer.
Giving a gift of publicly traded stock that has increased in value and that
you have owned for more than one year may provide greater tax benefits than
giving cash. Your charitable income tax deduction is equal to the fair
market value of the stock and you avoid paying the capital gains tax on any
increase in the current value over the original cost of the stock. You may
also save by not incurring brokerage fees because you are transferring
ownership rather than selling stock.
Planned or legacy giving is an
increasingly popular way for individuals of all financial circumstances to
make charitable gifts, enabling a donor to arrange charitable contributions
in a way to maximize his or her personal objectives while minimizing
after-tax cost.
